Friday was my first trip to the fertility clinic since my miscarriage in October. I went in for a saline sonogram that my RE had asked for back in the fall. The good news is that everything looks fine in my uterus. I’m guessing this procedure would have been much more useful if I hadn’t waited 6 months after my miscarriage to have it. But whatever, it’s done now.
Once the procedure was over, my RE suggested I make an appointment with the clinic’s genetic counselor. He thinks we should consider PGD (preimplantation genetic diagnosis) testing. I’m guessing this is based on the fact that my last miscarriage appeared to be due to a genetic issue with the embryo. I’m not sure how I feel about this. Have any of you done PGD? Did you have success with it?
Upon first mention, my DH seems to be on board with the idea. But I have reservations… I mean, you’re taking an 8 celled organism and removing a cell. It seems to me that with only 8 cells each one is important. I’m concerned about the procedure causing an issue down the road. But I guess that’s the reason for having a discussion with the counselor. That’s my next step at this point.
I also have 1 frozen embryo and am feeling like I should give it a try with another FET before I move forward with IVF with ICSI and PGD.
For those of you who have looked into or been through PGD – any wisdom to share?
